Degrees and Programs
The Master of Divinity degree (MDiv) is generally required of those seeking ordination in the North American Lutheran Church (NALC). The NALS has a network of partner seminaries which offer the Master of Divinity with a Lutheran focus. Students attending these seminaries must still fulfill all requirements of the NALS which includes two residential courses offered in the June Interterm at the seminary center in Ambridge, PA.
Learn MoreThe Master of Arts in Religion degree (MAR) imparts a sound knowledge of theology to prepare students for lay ministry or further study. Some students use this degree to prepare for further graduate study, and others use it to provide a Christian foundation for the work they do in the marketplace and in their places of worship. Students may choose from three foci: Biblical Studies, Christian History & Theology, or Christian Ministry & Missiology.
Learn MoreThe Certificate of Lutheran Studies (CLS) is a non-credit, non-degree program of Trinity School of Ministry and the North American Lutheran Seminary. It consists of six online courses in the theological disciplines, delivered entirely online. Typically, a student registered in the CLS program is a lay leader in an NALC house church or an established congregation. CLS courses are intended to enhance the faith and knowledge of the NALC laity in order to strengthen the mission of local congregations.
Learn MoreThe Diploma of Lutheran Studies (DLS) program is designed to provide preparation for Word and Sacrament Ministry for seminarians who have attended non-Lutheran seminaries and who are now preparing for ordination in the NALC. The DLS can be completed in one year through a combination of online and residential components. The DLS program is 30 credits.
