NALS Calls New Professor

The North American Lutheran Seminary (NALS) is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. David Luy to its faculty. Dr. Luy has been called to the position of Associate Professor of Systematic Theology and will be teaching core curriculum courses, as well as closely mentoring NALS students as they prepare for ministry. This position will also be added to Trinity School for Ministry’s on campus faculty.

Dr. Luy comes to us from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, where he served as both chair of the Department of Biblical and Systematic Theology and as an Associate Professor of Biblical and Systematic Theology. Along with his extensive experience in teaching theology at master’s and doctoral levels, he has also completed extensive research surrounding the historical development and modern-day implementation of reformation theologies. Dr. Luy has written a full-length book on Martin Luther’s Christology as well as multiple essays that have been featured in publications such as Luther Digest, The International Journal of Systematic Theology, Modern Theology and the Oxford Encyclopedia of Martin Luther.

“We are thrilled to have Dr. Luy come aboard,” said the Rev. Dr. Eric Riesen, President of the NALS, “and we are confident in his ability to form our students with God-given wisdom and deep knowledge of scripture.”

Dr. Luy is passionate about equipping the next generation of faithful pastors with the sound theology and doctrine required to answer the call of ministry. Before accepting this position, Dr. Luy received an official call from both the Board of Regents and the Executive Council (NALC).

“It is a great honor for me to be joining the faculty of the NALS,” said Dr. Luy. “I resonate deeply with the core values of the NALC, and it will be a joy to assist in advancing its mission through the ministry of theological education.”

Dr. Luy has been involved in the NALC Younger Theologians since 2017, and has been a guest lecturer for the NALS. A member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Lindenhurst, Illinois, he has been formed in the Lutheran Tradition since youth.

“My formation in the Lutheran tradition began at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Freeport, Illinois, the parish where I was baptized, and where I received catechetical instruction in preparation for confirmation. A more robust commitment to the Lutheran theological tradition came into focus during early adulthood as I progressed in the study of theology throughout college and graduate school.”
