In Remembrance of Bishop Spring

We are saddened to announce that Bishop Emeritus Paull Spring passed away on Saturday night, surrounded by his family. His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 21 at 10:00 am EST at Albright-Bethune United Methodist Church in State College, Pennsylvania.

Bishop Spring was the first bishop of the North American Lutheran Church, and instrumental to its formation. After his “retirement,” the NALC Executive Council appointed Bishop Spring to serve as interim coordinator for theological education in 2013. His responsibilities included developing administrative and organizational plans to design a new seminary for the NALC. After determining the location of the new North American Lutheran Seminary, Bishop Spring met regularly with the leadership of Trinity School for Ministry to lay the groundwork for our Seminary Center in Ambridge, Pennsylvania. Bishop Spring then served as the first chair of the NALS Board of Regents, continuing to serve as a regent until earlier this year.

We are truly grateful for the tireless work of Bishop Paull Spring, one of the founders and leaders of our first era as a seminary, and we ask you to join us in a prayer of thanksgiving for his life and ministry.
